Can a House Fly?    [18-03-2011]
Untitled Document
Did you watch the animated movie Up? In the movie, Mr. Frederickson¡¯s house flies in the sky. He attaches hundreds of colorful helium balloons to his house to explore South America!

So, do you think it¡¯s possible in real life, too? Surprisingly, the answer is YES! On March 5, a team of scientists from National Geographic, engineers, and two world-famous balloon pilots successfully launched a house in LA, using 300 colorful weather balloons! The 5.4-meter-high house continued to soar higher into the air. It reached an altitude of over 3 kilometers, flying for about one hour! The scientists wanted to see if they could fly a house like Mr. Frederickson.

The launch set a new world record for the largest balloon cluster flight ever attempted. The amazing experiment will be screened on the National Geographic Channel this autumn. If you want to see the flying house, make sure to watch the program.
However, never try to fly your own house with balloons!
