Do
you love cats? You can meet a very special cat if you visit Massachusetts
in the U.S. The cat has two faces! His left face is named Frank and
right face is named Louie. He is also called a ¡®Janus cat¡¯ after the
two-faced god in Roman mythology. Last week, Frank and Louie broke
the Guinness World Record as the longest surviving two-faced cat.
Two-faced Janus cats are very rare. They usually survive only for
a few days because they are born with an innate defect. Frank and
Louie was born in September, 1999 with three blue eyes, two noses,
and two mouths. Since the cat was so weak and abnormal, people tried
to put him down. However, Marty Stevens rescued the special cat and
started keeping him as a pet.
¡°When I saw him, he was a day-old and he was about to be euthanized.
But I wanted to take him home and save him. People told me not to
get my hopes up too much because usually animals with such abnormalities
don¡¯t survive,¡± said Ms. Stevens, who used to work in a veterinary
school. ¡°Actually animals with innate defect never survive. However,
my cat survived 12 years!¡± she said proudly.
Frank and Louie turned 12 years old last month, becoming the longest
surviving two-faced cat! He even made it into the 2012 Guinness Book
of World Records for being the world¡¯s longest living Janus cat.
According to Ms. Stevens, the two-faced cat loves walking on a leash
outside. Many people get shocked to see him, but his owner says he
is the loveliest cat in the world. He is a new world record holder
after all! |
