Pelicans are large water birds. They have big pouched bills and long wings. The huge bills allow pelicans to store fish that they have caught. So they can eat the fish later or serve it to their babies. Pelicans are found on all continents, except Antarctica³²±Ø´ë·ú.

There are several kinds of pelicans in the world. The smallest of the pelican is the Brown Pelican. It can be as little as 2.75 kilograms, 106 centimeters and have a wingspan of 1.83 meters. The largest pelican species is the Dalmatian Pelican. An adult Dalmatian Pelican can weigh up to 15 kilograms, 183 centimeters tall and a maximum wingspan measures nearly 3.5 meters.
Pelicans can be colored white, especially when found in Africa and Southern Eurasia. The American white pelican has black tips on the end of its wings. These particular pelicans can be spotted breeding in the Western United States. But they migrate up into Canada and over to Florida for winter.

Pelicans depend on fish for their livelihood. So they need to have plenty of fish swimming around. But sadly, people are catching too many of the fish in the sea. So there are not enough remaining fish to feed the pelicans. Also, people dump toxins into the water, and it's very difficult for the pelican to survive. Let's try to keep our oceans clean and healthy so that we can enjoy watching those pelicans flying by the shore for many years to come!
