Do
you have a pet cat at home? What is
its name? These days, giving cats interesting names is gaining popularity
in Britain. Many cat owners name their pets after their favorite foods!
Saffron, Sushi, and Pringles are among the most
common cat names.
According to a recent survey done by a cat charity group in the UK,
many cats across the country have been named after their owner¡¯s favorite
snacks. The Sussex-based charity group asked more than 1,000 cat owners
from ages 5 and 70 about their cat¡¯s names.

The group found many interesting food-related names such as
Cabbage, Pringles, Saffron, Sushi, and Jellybean. They also found
that one of the most popular names for pet cats
nowadays is Pilchard. Thomas
used to be the most popular name for British cats.
¡°People used to give their cats human names such as Thomas, Max, Cindy,
and Sarah. However, we were surprised by the huge number of names
related to food,¡± said Karen Thompson, deputy manager at the National
Cat Adoption Centre.
¡°Soon, the cat naming trend is likely to change
as many owners said they would name their pets after Harry Potter
characters,¡± he added. |
