Most bus drivers are male in many countries, including Korea. There are some female bus drivers as well, but it is not easy to see them often.
However, if you visit a town near Buenos Aires in Argentina, you will be surprised to see so many female bus drivers! The town is called Vicente Lopez and about 270,000 people live there. Last month, the town hired solely women to shuttle its passengers around. The bus line has been operating since the beginning of April.
So, why is the town operating this unique bus line? ¡°We wanted to have drivers who would drive in a gentle manner because many children and elderly people use the bus line,¡± explained Luis Fusco, the town¡¯s top transportation official. ¡°With women driving, the bus line is more friendly, comfortable, and family-oriented.¡±
So, are the passengers happy with the new drivers? Yes, they are very satisfied with the new drivers because they drive more safely and gently than male drivers. In Argentina, it is rare to see female bus drivers. Therefore, the residents in the town are very happy to enjoy this special service. What¡¯s more surprising is that there is no fare to ride the buses! The town¡¯s officials believe that the bus line is a free public service for their residents. What an amazing bus line!
