Lightning Gave Me a Harry Potter-style Scar!    [20-05-2011]

Have you ever seen lightning? Lightning is a flash of bright light in the sky, which is produced by electricity moving between clouds or from clouds to the ground. It usually accompanies loud thunder. The chances of being hit by lightning are very rare, but some people do get struck by lightning. In Britain, only about 50 people are hit each year.

Last week, a 10-year-old British girl named Erin Moran was hit by lightning. Luckily, she is totally OK now, but the bolt left a Harry Potter-style scar on her arm! It happened when Erin was watching the storm in the attic in her house. She was taken to a hospital right away as she felt pain in her arm and toe. Surprisingly, however, she was totally fine, even though the lightning went straight through her. It just left her a spark-shaped scar in the same way that the boy wizard Harry Potter was left with a lightning bolt scar! As you all know, Harry Potter has a scar on his forehead shaped like a lightning bolt.

¡°It was a miracle and Erin is a very lucky girl. It is just amazing,¡± her father Mark said. Erin went back home after just three hours and the next day she was back at school! ¡°I showed my scar to my friends and they were very surprised to see it,¡± said Erin in excitement. ¡°
Some people think my scar looks like lightning going across the sky, but I call it ¡®my lucky snowflake.¡¯¡± You are a really lucky girl, Erin!
