Swearing is bad because it can hurt other people¡¯s feelings. It can also ruin your relationships with others. It can even cost you a lot of money! If you swear in public in Barnsley, a city in south Yorkshire, you can be fined a lot of money.
Last week, officials in the city decided to fine for swearing in public places such as restaurants and shopping malls. The city officials of Barnsley decided to ban swearing to combat anti-social behavior. ¡°Even though swearing is not directly targeted at you, simply hearing it can make you upset,¡± explained Julie Mitchell of South Yorkshire Police.

¡°So we will monitor the language of people out shopping, eating or merely relaxing in the town center.¡± If officials find someone using coarse language in public, they will go to the person and ask them to moderate his or her language first.
However, if that is unsuccessful, they can fine the person a maximum of ¡Ì80, which is about 140,000 won. Citizens of the city have also been asked to report the use offensive language, including swearing. Let¡¯s hope the people in the city will behave themselves and use beautiful language in public places!
