Rapunzel¶óǬÁ©,
a German fairy tale, has been retold
to children for centuries. Rapunzel is famous for her long, beautiful
golden hair. Her hair is
unbelievably long because
she has never cut her hair in her entire life. To our surprise,
you can find a modern version of Rapunzel
in China!
Have you watched Disney¡¯s animated version of the long-haired
girl titled Tangled? In the Disney rework, Rapunzel¡¯s hair is 21 meters
long and has magical healing powers. Her golden hair surely looks
beautiful and magical.
A
woman in China has been working to grow her hair to become the Chinese version
of Rapunzel. In the city of Taiyuan, located in Shanxi Province, there lives
a 55-year-old woman with hair that measures about 2.53 meters
long. Her name is Ni Linmei and she is the mother of two children.
She hopes to become the woman with the longest hair
in the 2011 Guinness Book of World Records. Linmei admitted that she
has not cut her hair for 14 years. in her town, she is famous for
her extensive braids.
She combs her extremely long hair once a day. Her two
daughters help her. To measure her hair, she has to stand on a chair.
Although having split ends is an unavoidable problem, her hair is
in great condition.
She claims that her hair grows 16.7 centimeters a year. She will attempt
to beat the world record for the longest hair in a few years. The
current record for the longest hair is held by Xie Quiping, who is
also from China. Her hair measured about 5.6 meters on May 8, 2004.
Let's hope Linmei will one day beat that record! |
