is an amazing country. It is a
huge country with the largest
population in the world.
A variety of interesting
creatures live in the country,
too. Recently, a giant mushroom was found in China.
Scientists at the Chinese Academy of Science중국과학기술대학교in Shenyang discovered the huge fungus in a forest in Hainan Province. They were in the
field, studying fungi when
they found the huge fungus. It is more than 10 meters long, about
82 centimeters wide, and 5 centimeters thick. It weighs about 500 kilograms!
The amazing fungus is thought to be at least 20 years old! It
is growing on the underside of a tree.
The fungus is called the bracket fungus. “We were
very surprised to see the huge mushroom. We did not know that the
fungus can grow so huge,” said Professor Yu-Cheng Dai, who studied
the fungus at the Chinese Academy of Science. “We were surprised when
we found it. At first, we did not recognize it in the forest
because it was too large,” he added. The bracket fungus can live for
a number of years, so it
could grow to such a large size. Also, it grew very well by feeding on the huge amount
of dead and decaying wood on the underside of
the large fallen tree.
According to the professor,
it is estimated to hold some 450 million spores! Isn’t this amazing?
