British author J.K. Rowling cast a spell over global audiences with her wildly popular Harry Potter series. The seven books, which were released from 1997 and 2007, went on to sell more than 450 million copies and have been translated into 74 languages. The books were loved by both children and adults alike. Now, the world-famous author is writing a novel for adults.

Will Rowling¡¯s magic continue as she prepares to make the jump to adult fiction? According to a press release last week by British publisher Little, Brown, Rowling will release her first adult novel. However, the title, release date, and details of the book were not announced.

Since the release of the seventh and final Harry Potter book back in 2007, Rowling said that she was working on an adult book and on a Potter encyclopedia. She also launched her very own website called ¡°Pottermore¡± in 2011. The e-book version of the Harry Potter books will be released on Pottermore sometime this year.

Although any book by Rowling would seem to be a guaranteed best seller, it¡¯s questionable if her new novel will have the same success as the popular series about a boy wizard. Many people believe that it is very hard for children¡¯s authors to write books for adults.

A.A. Milne, a successful playwright and the creator of Winnie the Pooh, once confessed that he had to say ¡°goodbye to all that¡± after his beloved books about the lovely bear and his friends. Also, Daniel Handler of Lemony Snicket and Ann Brashares, author of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants novels, are among the recent popular writers for children who have had limited success as adult writers.

Yet, many fans seemed to be excited by the announcement and are eagerly anticipating the release of Rowling¡¯s new book. ¡°J.K. Rowling is simply a great writer, and no matter what she applies her talents to, we will anticipate and enjoy it,¡± said fan Melissa Anelli.
