On August 27, the oldest person in the world, Besse Cooper, celebrated her 115th birthday in Georgia, U.S. A researcher from Guinness Book of World Records attended her party to witness the historical moment. He gave Mrs. Cooper a very special birthday gift - a certificate that says she is the oldest person on Earth.

Mrs. Cooper was born in Tennessee in 1896. In the same year she was born, the first modern Olympic Games were held and the first Ford vehicle was built. She moved to Georgia during World War ¥° to work as a teacher. She married in 1924 and had four children. Now, she has 12 grandchildren and more than a dozen great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She must need a huge house to have a family gathering!

Despite her old age, Mrs. Cooper is very healthy and has a very good memory. So, what is her secret to longevity? ¡°She never worried and she never put her nose into other people¡¯s business,¡± said her 76-year-old son Sidney Cooper. ¡°She gets enough sleep every night and doesn¡¯t eat junk food,¡± he added. Let¡¯s hope Mrs. Cooper stays healthy for many more years to come!
