Everyone knows that eating fresh fruits and vegetables is good for their health. They are not only delicious but also very nutritious. Most fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamin C and many minerals. According to a new study, eating fresh fruits is also helpful in keeping a healthy weight. Now you have one more reason to enjoy them every day!

American researchers at Yale University found in their study that people who enjoy eating fresh fruits and vegetables eat less sugary food. As a result, they are able to control their temptation of eating other sugary or fatty foods.

Your body needs glucose to power your brain. It is found in carbohydrates, and we get most of our sugar from them. If your body lacks glucose, you are more likely to choose to eat high-calorie foods. This is because when your supply of glucose drops, your urge to eat increases and you begin to lose your ability to control your desire. As a result, you tend to eat a lot of sugary foods.

The researchers scanned the brains of volunteers who were given injections of glucose, while they were shown pictures of high and low calorie foods, as well as other objects. When glucose levels were lower, two areas of the brain lost its ability to control the desire to eat.

¡°Fresh fruits and vegetables contain good sugar. Eating this good sugar through healthy food is a secret to a healthy weight,¡± explained Professor Rajita Sinha, who led the study. ¡°We found that eating fresh fruit and vegetables helps people resist the temptation of waist-expanding treats,¡± she added.

According to the researchers, obese people react more sensitively to the lack of glucose. Therefore, even the slightest drop in glucose will make them have a craving for carbohydrates. In order to stay healthy, it is important to eat good carbohydrates such as fresh fruits, vegetables, brown rice, and whole meal bread. However, white bread, white sugar, soft drinks, cakes, and snacks are bad carbohydrates.

Professor Sinha suggests that making sure the brain¡¯s glucose levels do not drop could be the secret to keeping a healthy weight. ¡°The key seems to be eating healthy foods that maintain glucose levels. The brain needs glucose to function well. Fresh fruits and vegetables are good sources of glucose,¡± she said. She recommends eating more fruits and vegetables to lower the chance of surrendering to the temptation of high-calorie foods.
