Everyone has fingernails. Our fingernails are playing important roles for us. They help protect our soft, sensitive fingertips. They also help us pick up small things. Your fingernails grow about 3 to 5 millimeters a month.
Therefore, we have to cut them regularly. But what if we don¡¯t cut our fingernails for a long time? A 45-year-old American woman named Chris Walton can tell you what happens if you don¡¯t cut your fingernails. This is because she hasn¡¯t clipped hers for 18 years!

Recently, Guinness World Records named Ms. Walton the woman with the longest fingernails on Earth. So, how long are her fingernails?

Don¡¯t be surprised. Her left fingernails are 3.1 meters long and right fingernails are 2.92 meters long. Together, they are about 6 meters long! Ms. Walton, who is a professional singer in Las Vegas, can do many things despite her extremely long nails. ¡°My fingernails are very long, but I can do regular things. I can even do household chores and send text messages on my mobile phone,¡± she said. ¡°One daily activity that is difficult for me is getting change out of my pocket.¡± Ms. Walton has been growing her nails for nearly two decades to set a new world record.
Now that she has won the record, she plans to cut her nails. Then, her daily life will become a lot easier!
