We
all know that milk is good for our health. It is a wonderful source of calcium. Therefore, drinking
milk is good for our bones and teeth. To our surprise,
a German fashion designer named Anke Domaske loves milk so much that
she even wears it! How can you wear milk? One day, she opened her
fridge to drink some milk.
All of a sudden, Domaske,
who majored in microbiology in college, came up with an
idea of making clothes from milk! She succeeded in making a special
fabric made from high concentrations of the milk
protein casein. The fabric is called
¡°QMilch.¡± It is the first man-made fiber produced entirely without chemicals.
¡°It feels like silk and it doesn¡¯t smell. You can wash it just
like anything else,¡± she said. According to the creative fashion designer,
her new fabric has many health benefits because it
is made from all natural materials. ¡°The QMilch
fabric is ecological and healthy. The
amino acids in the milk protein
are anti-bacterial, anti-aging and can help regulate both blood circulation and body temperature,¡± she explained.
It takes about six liters of milk to produce an entire dress. It costs about 150 euros ($199).
You may think the clothes will go bad, like milk does, as time passes.
However, you don¡¯t have to worry about the expiry date. The casein is
extracted from dried milk powder and then heated up
in a special machine with other natural ingredients. After the heating process, the milk
protein won¡¯t decay. Isn¡¯t the milk fabric
amazing? |
