Eating is a very important part of our lives. We cannot survive without food. Eating balanced meals is vital to lead a healthy, happy life. Eating healthy food is especially important to children and teenagers for normal growth. However, many children and teenagers have unhealthy eating habits. According to recent research, many teenage girls even feel guilty about what they eat. In fact, a large number of teenage girls suffer from eating disorders.

According to the research, around four in every ten young girls feel guilty about what they eat. This means that about 40 percent of teenage girls feel guilty whenever they eat. The survey was done in Britain by the market research institute Mintel. They looked into the eating habits of young girls aged between 11 to 15.

Mintel found that millions of young people have an unhealthy relationship with food. Many girls tend to eat junk food when they are stressed or upset. Girls were more likely to eat sugary food than boys when unhappy. The problem is that they feel anxious as they open a bag of chips or unwrap a bar of chocolate.

Many young girls admire skinny fashion models. In order to look like them, they often go on a diet. This can harm their health. It can also have a negative effect on their normal growth. Another problem is that teen girls do not exercise as much as boys. Therefore, they are at a greater risk of weight gain and worsening health.

¡°Feeling guilty about eating is more common among girls. This likely reflects the general higher pressure that women put themselves under in terms of their weight and appearance,¡± said Michelle Strutton of Mintel.

Other surveys show that over half of girls between 12 and 15 years old list appearance as a major concern in their lives. Many girls think they should go on a restricted diet. This is because they believe that girls should have a certain size and shape. However, that size and shape is unrealistic for most women.

Girls, try to eat healthy, balanced meals and exercise regularly. When eating, enjoy what you are eating without feeling guilty! You deserve to eat healthy, delicious food and live a happy life!
