Polar bears look very cute and lovely. When a baby polar bear is born, it is no bigger than a rat. But it grows very fast and becomes the world¡¯s largest land carnivore. In fact, polar bears are the largest members of the bear family. So if you happen to see them in the wild, never go near them!

Polar bears live in cold areas where temperatures drop as low as minus 55 degrees Celsius. They are found in Alaska, Canada, Russia, Greenland, and Norway. Polar bears spend most of their time on ice floes.

So, how can polar bears stay warm in the cold environment? They have a thick layer of fat under their skin. In order to stay fat and warm, they must eat a lot of food. About half of the food they eat is used to keep them warm. So polar bears try to weigh as much as possible. The heaviest polar bear stays warmer longer.

Polar bears hunt seals, fish, seabirds, and reindeer. In the summer, they will also eat plants and berries. They don¡¯t need to drink water because they get all the liquid they need from the food they eat.
