Have
you ever seen a chameleon? It is an amazing animal. The reptile is famous for its
ability to change color.
It can also move its eyes in two directions at the same time!
Chameleons can even sleep upside down. Let¡¯s learn
some more interesting facts about these color-changing reptiles!
Chameleons belong to the lizard family. There are
about 160 species of chameleons in
the world. Half of the world¡¯s chameleon population lives on the island
of Madagascar. They are also found in Africa, Yemen, Saudi Arabia,
Southern Spain, and India. They live for about five to nine years.
Chameleons are omnivores, meaning they can
eat anything. They usually feed on insects, snails, spiders, lizards, birds,
flowers, berries, and fruit. Their tongues can be as long as
their bodies! Their long tongues have a sticky tip to catch insects. They are able
to shoot their tongue out and catch an insect in the blink of an eye.
Chameleons can change their colors. Their body temperature, light, and mood are the factors that cause them to change their
colors. The warmer or angrier the chameleon is, the brighter its color
becomes. |
