Cat
Wins Lottery
Did you know that the Chinese believe that cats bring good luck?
This is why many Chinese families have a pet cat. I really love cats,
too.
But I never believed that a cat can actually bring good luck.
Well, a cat living in China proved me wrong. This cat
named Lili recently picked the winning lottery numbers! The owner of Lili said that he
always believed his cat can
bring great luck.
So, he actually decided to have Lili pick the lottery numbers. The
owner showed Lili different numbers. And he
picked the numbers that the cat put her paws on. Believe it or not,
this lottery ticket became a winning
ticket. As a result, Lili and her
owner won great prize money!
I guess Lili's owner will be buying his cat some new treats and toys!
Yikes! A Rollercoaster Stops in Mid-air!
Just
thinking of getting on the rollercoaster brings excitement. Moving at fast speed in a track that goes in circles
is very scary. But it's so much fun!
But sometimes there can be a
problem. Can you imagine being stuck in mid-air?
Yes, I am talking about the rollercoaster stopping and getting stuck
high up in the sky.
Take a look at the picture.
Recently, a rollercoaster
in Six Flags Park in the U.S. stopped suddenly in mid-air. This
rollercoaster was moving up on the track, and all of sudden electricity went out. Twenty
people were on the rollercoaster. They were stuck in mid-air, upside down for close to
two hours! Luckily, engineers fixed the problem, and nobody
was hurt. Phew, they were amazingly lucky!
Brave Woman Fights Off Shark Attack!
Enjoying
water sports at the beach is very fun. People
in Australia often enjoy water sports such as surfing at the beach. But
when you enjoy water sports in Australia, you have to be very careful. This is because
there are many scary sharks swimming around! Last
year, six people were attacked by sharks in Australia. And there were
62 shark attacks worldwide in 2006.
Last Monday, a Great White Shark attacked
a woman in Australia. But the brave woman fought it off!
Her name is Linda Whitehurst. On October 15, Linda was enjoying surf
skiing at a beach. But a 2.5-meter Great White Shark saw the surf
ski. And it swam directly at her. Then, the
scary shark knocked her into the water
from her surf ski.
"I thought this is it. He grabbed my leg. But I kept
punching it with my paddle, "Linda told
local television."I was able to defend myself from the shark
by striking it in the mouth with the paddle from the surf ski. The
shark then took off and swam away from me." Amazingly, Linda only got
small wounds on her right arm in
the fight with the big shark. Well, I'll just have to say she is really
lucky! |
