Do you know who Evita Peron is? She was Argentina¡¯s former first lady. She is also known as ¡°Eva Peron.¡± She is one of the most famous first ladies in world history. Her life inspired so many people. Argentinians still miss her and respect her. They will even put the image of her on their bank notes!

Eva met her husband Colonel Juan Peron in 1944 in Buenos Aires during a charity event. They were married the following year. Later, her husband became the President of Argentina. Eva served as the First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until her death in 1952. She worked very hard to make the lives of those less fortunate better.

Sadly, Eva Peron died of cancer at the age of 33 on July 26, 1952. Shortly before her death, she was given the title of ¡°Spiritual Leader of the Nation¡± by the Argentine Congress. After her death, people turned her life into a musical ¡°Evita.¡± People also made a song for her ¡°Don¡¯t Cry for Me Argentina.¡±

In order to mark the 60th anniversary of her death, the Argentine government decided to issue special bank notes. Her face will grace the nation¡¯s new 100-peso notes!
Evita is the first woman to appear on any Argentine bank note. After 200 years, it¡¯s the first time that a woman appears on a bill in the country.

¡°Eva was not a saint. But she was a humble woman of the people,¡± said President Cristina Kirchner. ¡°Honoring her with this bill is a way of recovering justice,¡± she added as she revealed the new 100-peso note on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the death of Evita Peron.
