Many
people fear sharks. They have been
misunderstood by humans as fearful creatures. But most sharks
are not dangerous. In fact, bees are more dangerous
than sharks to humans! There are about 350 different types of sharks
in the world. This week, let¡¯s learn more about these amazing animals!
Sharks have been around for more than 300 million years. They were
around before dinosaurs! The dwarf shark
is the smallest shark. It is as small as your hand. The biggest shark
is the whale shark. It can be as large as a school bus! In fact, the
whale shark is the biggest fish in the world.
Sharks are
great hunters. They have a good
sense of smell. They can
detect prey easily that is in the
sand, even at night. They can also feel the movements made by other animals
that are hundreds of kilometers away. Sharks can hear sounds from
thousands of kilometers away, too.
Most sharks give birth to their babies.
Only a few sharks lay eggs. Most sharks have
6 to 12 babies at a time. But the Hammerhead and Tiger Shark can have as many
as 40 babies at a time! |
