Many people fear sharks. They have been misunderstood by humans as fearful creatures. But most sharks are not dangerous. In fact, bees are more dangerous than sharks to humans! There are about 350 different types of sharks in the world. This week, let¡¯s learn more about these amazing animals!

Sharks have been around for more than 300 million years. They were around before dinosaurs! The dwarf shark is the smallest shark. It is as small as your hand. The biggest shark is the whale shark. It can be as large as a school bus! In fact, the whale shark is the biggest fish in the world.

Sharks are great hunters. They have a good sense of smell. They can detect prey easily that is in the sand, even at night. They can also feel the movements made by other animals that are hundreds of kilometers away. Sharks can hear sounds from thousands of kilometers away, too.

Most sharks give birth to their babies. Only a few sharks lay eggs. Most sharks have 6 to 12 babies at a time. But the Hammerhead and Tiger Shark can have as many as 40 babies at a time!
