Do you know who was the first man to walk on the moon? His name is Neil Armstrong. He was an American astronaut who wrote his name in history in 1969 when he arrived on the moon. Now he is old and weak. He even underwent a heart surgery.

Born on August 5, 1930, Neil Armstrong is an American astronaut, test pilot, aerospace engineer, and university professor. Before becoming an astronaut, he was in the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War. Armstrong began his career as a fighter pilot during the Korean War. Later, he became a test pilot for NASA.

On July 20, 1969, he became the first person to set foot upon the moon. He was a commander of the Apollo 11 mission. As he stepped on the moon, he said, ¡°That¡¯s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.¡±

NASA described Armstrong as a ¡°true American hero.¡± Later, he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal - the highest award for a U.S. civilian - along with his Apollo 11 crew.

After leaving the space agency, Armstrong took up a teaching post at the University of Cincinnati, near his home in Ohio. Recently, the American hero celebrated his 82nd birthday with his family.

Now he is old and weak. Recently, he even underwent a heart surgery. Fortunately, the surgery was successful. Now he is recovering from it. According to his wife Carol, he is doing great following the surgery.

Buzz Aldrin, who accompanied him on the Apollo 11 mission wrote on Twitter: ¡°Sending my best wishes for a speedy recovery - we agreed to make it the 50th Apollo Anniversary in 2019.¡± He also said that Neil¡¯s pioneering spirit will surely serve him well in this challenging time. Let¡¯s hope the hero will get well soon!
