Horses are wonderful animals. They are strong, powerful, and elegant. In the past, they used to play many important roles in our lives. But how much do you know about them? You will be surprised to learn many amazing facts about them!

Horses have been around on Earth for a very long time. Unlike today¡¯s horses, the early horses were very small. They were no bigger than a pet cat! They were only about 20 centimeters high at the shoulder.

Today, there are over 350 different breeds of horses and ponies in the world. A pony is not a baby horse, but a full grown small horse. Ponies live longer than horses. They can live up to 50 years.?

Horses usually sleep about two to three hours a day. They sleep longer in the summer than in the winter. Horses are social animals. They live in groups and help one another survive. They will get lonely if kept alone.

Horses can communicate how they are feeling through facial expressions. They use their ears, nostrils, and eyes to show their moods. If a horse has flared nostrils and its ears are back, don¡¯t go near it. That means it might attack!
