There are many talented musicians in the world. But not many musicians can play the piano with only one hand.
But for the British pianist named Nicholas McCarthy, it is a piece of cake! In fact, he was born without a right hand. But he can play the piano perfectly!
Recently, he even made history by graduating from the Royal College of Music in London¿µ±¹¿Õ¸³À½¾Ç´ëÇÐ.
Living without a right hand would be very difficult. When Nicholas wanted to learn how to play the piano when he was 14, no one wanted to help him.
He was even told that he was wasting everyone¡¯s time by trying to learn the instrument with only one hand.
However, he didn¡¯t give up because that was he wanted to do.
As a teenager, he wanted to become a chef at first. But one day, his dream changed when he saw his friend playing the piano.
¡°I just fell in love with the piano and decided that was what I wanted to do,¡± said Nicholas.
However, his school orchestra refused his audition and told he would never succeed.
¡°It was heart-breaking because that¡¯s all I wanted to do. I could feel it would be an uphill struggle, but it made me more determined,¡± he said.
As a result of his hard work, he could enter a music school at the age of 17.
He even won the annual piano prize. Then, he went on to the prestigious Royal College of Music in London.
Of course, he completed his courses successfully.
In fact, he has become the first one-handed pianist to complete his studies at the Royal College in its 130-year history!
Now the 23-year-old pianist is the member of Britain¡¯s first disabled orchestra, the Paraorchestra.
¡°When I first joined the orchestra, a couple of the musicians who are partially sighted and blind didn¡¯t believe I was playing with one hand.
That was a big compliment to me,¡± said Nicholas with a bright smile.
The special orchestra played beautiful music for the Paralympics athletes at the opening ceremony in London last week.
Despite his physical disability, Nicholas believes he can do anything he wants.
Actually he just proved it! Keep playing beautiful music for us, Nicholas!
