you play any musical instruments? There
are many different instruments in
the world. Many children learn how to play the piano or violin. Some children also
play other instruments such as the cello or flute. But have you ever seen instruments
made from vegetables?
To our surprise, two brothers from Beijing, China created musical instruments
from vegetables such as carrots and potatoes! Nan Weidong and Nan
Weiping came up with the idea of making vegetable instruments two
years ago.
They make the special instruments by drilling holes in carrots, pumpkins, potatoes, and other
vegetables. According to the brothers,
different vegetables are used to make different melodies. For example,
a sweet potato makes an ocarina, a bamboo shoot becomes a flute,
and a yam becomes a whistle.
However, vegetable instruments are hard to play. They are very sensitive to air temperature and humidity. So the shapes of
their holes change easily. But the brothers
will keep playing vegetable instruments to make people happy. Keep
