Have you ever seen a snail? It is very slow! It may be a slow animal, but it is an amazing creature! Did you know that there are more snails than insects on Earth? This week, let¡¯s learn some interesting facts about snails. Then you will be able to impress your friends with your knowledge!

Snails are mollusks, a group of animals that have a hard shell. Snails have been around for more than 600 million years! In fact, they are one of the oldest known animal species in the world. Scientists have found snail fossils from millions of years ago.

There is no way to tell whether a snail is a male or a female because they are both! Snails can lay eggs and fertilize them, too. Their bodies are made up of three parts: a foot, a head, and a body. They don¡¯t have a backbone. Instead, they have their shell for protection. They can live for 15 to 20 years.

Snails can live pretty much anywhere. But they prefer damp, dark environments. They are most likely to come out at night or very early in the morning. Then, what do snails eat? They usually eat plants, algae, and limestone. Sometimes they even eat each other! Snails cannot hear. They use their sense of smell to find food.
