The Earth was once ruled by amazingly huge animals such as dinosaurs and mammoths. Mammoths were prehistoric elephants with shaggy-hair. They had up to 4-meter-long curved tusks. These amazing animals don¡¯t exist on Earth anymore. They went extinct around 4,500 years ago. Surprisingly, a perfectly preserved mammoth was found in Siberia last week!

The woolly mammoth was found in northern Siberia by a team of scientists. Besides some missing bones, it was nearly perfectly preserved. But some of his bones are missing.

The mammoth is believed to be more than 10,000 years old. According to scientists who found the animal, it was only 3 to 4 years old when it died. They named the baby mammoth ¡°Yuka.¡± Unlike most dark-haired mammoths, Yuka has light brown hair.

Scientists are trying to learn how Yuka died. They said it is possible that humans killed Yuka. Or ancient humans may have stolen him from lions. Since humans co-existed with mammoths a long time ago, their theory is very possible. If their theory turns out to be correct, Yuka will be the first mammoth to show evidence of human interaction.
