Bao Xishun was born in 1951 in Inner Mongolia, China. When he was young, he was a normal boy. In fact, he was the same height as many kids while growing up. But when he was 16 years old, he experienced a sudden spurt of growth. And he kept growing and growing! So, how tall is he now? He is 2.36 meters tall! And in 2005, he was recognized as the tallest man in the world!

In 2006, Bao did a wonderful thing. He saved two dolphins¡¯ lives! The dolphins living at the Royal Jidi Ocean World in China accidentally swallowed plastic pieces. Animal doctors tried to remove the plastic from their stomachs, but they failed. So they asked Bao to use his 1.06- meter-long arms to reach into the dolphins¡¯ stomachs to remove the plastic. And Bao did it successfully and saved the dolphins! He is considered a hero in China.

In March, 2007, the tallest man in the world got married. The bride was just 1.68 meters tall. That is like 2/3 of Bao¡¯s height! Also, she was just 29 years old, which is nearly half his age (56). Bao Xishun is a very shy man. And he leads a simple life as a herdsman in Inner Mongolia.

Can you imagine what it would be like to be that tall? Well, sadly, because of his abnormal height, Bao is suffering from painful conditions of muscles, joints, and bones. He is undergoing medical treatments every day.

Surprisingly, Bao is not the tallest man in the world anymore. Yes, there¡¯s a taller man in the world!
On August 8, 2007, the Guinness World Records said that Leonid Stadnyk from Ukraine would replace Bao as the tallest living man in the upcoming 2008 edition of the record book. Don¡¯t be surprised. Leonid is 2.59 meters tall!
