Do you like eating crabs? Crabs serve as a popular dish in many countries throughout the world. They are very delicious and nutritious. But how much do you really know about them? There are so many different kinds of crabs in the world; over 7,000 species. Many species are edible and the blue crab of the Atlantic coast is one of the most popular. About one-quarter of the crab¡¯s weight is meat.

Crabs are found in the ocean and on the rocky sandy coasts. Average crabs live no longer than 3 years. Crabs mostly feed on plants. They like to eat algae. However, they also feed on some small creatures such as worms.

Believe it or not, crabs have teeth in their stomachs! They have 10 legs and a pair of claws. Their claws are used to pick up things. If a crab loses its claw, the claw grows back! Male crabs often have larger claws than females. Male crabs have narrow abdomens, while female crabs have broader abdomens. Crabs have gills like fish that helps them breathe in the water.
