Everyone wants to live a healthy, happy, and long life. Thanks to the advance of modern medical science, people¡¯s average lifespans are getting longer. According to a recent report, one in three babies born this year will live to the age of 100!

On average, people today live for about 70 to 80 years. Not many people live more than 100 years. However, according to the British Office for National Statistics (ONS), a third of babies born in 2012 will live to be 100. The report also said that women have a higher chance of reaching their 100th birthdays than men.

More than 95,000 people aged 65 in 2012 are expected to celebrate their 100th birthday in 2047. Researchers found that only 10 percent of men aged 65 this year and 14 percent of women the same age would live to the age of 100.

According to the ONS, the number of people who are 100 years or more has increased dramatically. In 1961, only 600 people reached this milestone. However, nearly 13,000 people celebrated their 100th birthday in 2010. The number of people who will become 100 is expected to rise to 456,000 by 2060 in the UK alone.

According to the latest figures, there are 826,000 babies aged under one year in Britain, with 423,000 being boys and 403,000 girls. Of these, 135,000 boys and 156,000 girls were born in 2012. The ONS said they are expected to live until 100, with nearly 40 percent of baby girls compared to just under a third of baby boys reaching the milestone.

Living a long life is a blessing. However, the rising aging population will likely have huge impacts on future societies.
