are many pests in the world, including
flies. Flies are harmful to humans because
they can make us sick! You can see them easily all year round in your house
and many other places. This week, let’s learn some interestingly but
annoying facts about these
pests!
There are more than 300,000 species of flies in the world. Flies have
6 legs and each fly eye contains 760 eyes. While most insects have four wings,
flies have two. Their wings beat up to 200 times per second, and can stop immediately after their feet
land.
 Female flies lay 500 eggs
at a time. They lay eggs on their food! Sometimes they also lay eggs
on your food! Interestingly, flies vomit on their food before
eating it. This is because they can only consume liquids. Vomiting on the
food is their way of liquefying it. Their saliva turns it into complete liquid before they
swallow it.
Flies don’t bite you like mosquitoes. But they can
do something worse! They can carry plenty of diseases with them! Also,
flies defecate every 4-5 minutes.
So if they land on your food, they can leave their vomit, eggs, and
poop on your food, which can make you sick. Flies live only 30 days.
But during their short lifetime, they can harm humans a lot! |
