Only I Can Speak This Language!    [25-05-2012]
Untitled Document
There are many different languages in the world. Some languages such as Chinese, English, and French are spoken by many people all over the world. On the other hand, some languages have only a few speakers. Surprisingly, there is a language that only has one speaker!
The special speaker¡¯s name is Gyani Maiya Sen and she is 75 years old. She is a Kusunda tribeswoman in Nepal. She can also speak Nepali. Today, only about 100 Kusunda tribespeople remain. But Ms. Sen is the only one on Earth who can speak the Kusunda language. It is a language from western Nepal of unknown origins, and it has mysterious sentence structures.

If Ms. Sen dies, the language will disappear. ¡°I feel very sad for not being able to speak with people from my own community. They neither understand nor speak the Kusunda language. It will die with me,¡± she said sadly.
A professor of linguistics at Nepal¡¯s Tribhuvan University said that if the Kusunda language vanishes, a unique part of our human heritage will be lost forever.

In order to protect the language, linguists are asking the Nepalese government to introduce a policy to save the language. Let¡¯s hope more people learn the language before it disappears forever!
