Look at the baby giraffe in the picture. It looks very cute. But it doesn't look very special. It may not look special, but it is! The giraffe was born at the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston last Monday. The calf was born after the Boston Red Sox's Game 1 victory!

The Boston Red Sox is a professional baseball team based in Boston. And they are the powerful World Series Champions. They are nicknamed "the BoSox." The team was founded in Boston in 1901. Back then, it was known as the Boston Americans. Last week, to honor the Red Sox four-game World Series sweep of the Colorado Rockies, staff at the zoo named the giraffe "Sox."

Sox weighed 154 pounds at birth, standing 6 feet 2 inches tall. She is a member of the Maasai Giraffe subspecies. It is also known as Kilimanjaro Giraffe. It is the tallest land animal. It has a very long neck and tongue. So it can eat leaves on tall trees that other animals cannot reach.
