Crickets are found in North America and throughout other parts of the world. There are about 900 species of crickets worldwide. Crickets are thought to bring good luck in many countries. They are, indeed, are fascinating creatures. But do they have ears like humans?

Crickets have many amazing abilities. They can see in different directions at the same time. They can even tell you the temperature! Yes, you can tell the temperature by counting a cricket¡¯s chirps. The higher the temperature, the more chirps a minute a cricket generates. When the temperature is 10 degrees, crickets chirp about 60 times a minute.

Crickets feed on plants and sometimes other insects. They have a life span of less than a year. Female crickets do not chirp; only males do. A male generates the chirp sound when he raises his left forewing and rubs it against the upper edge of his right forewing.

So do crickets have ears? Yes, they do! Surprisingly, their ears are located on the knees of their front legs! They detect sound through eardrums on their front legs. Sound passes through a lipid (a compound that includes oils and fats) to get to the insect¡¯s hearing organs!
