The Unconditional Love of Whales    [08-02-2013]
Untitled Document
Can you believe that whales are willing to adopt dolphins? It has happened for real! Ecologists have witnessed sperm whales nuzzling and rubbing a dolphin in the North Atlantic Ocean. What is surprising is that sperm whales are not known to be friendly and to socialize. In addition, the poor dolphin was suffering from a spine deformity. Ecologists assumed that the dolphin¡¯s spine was deformed because other dolphins bullied him.

In fact, dolphin groups have a very specific hierarchy. They are divided into two parts: the leaders, and the weaker members. The weaker members get harassed a lot of the time. They even receive death threats from the other dolphins. For these reasons, the sperm whales took action! They started to protect the poor dolphin on their own will.
Unlike dolphin groups, whales travel in groups that do not include adult males. This means the young whales don¡¯t have to be afraid of being bullied by strong males. The dolphin is no longer in fear of being bullied as long as the whales take good care of him! Now, they are friends and a family. Good work, whales!
