What is the item of clothes that everyone has at least one in their closet? Here is a tip. Former Apple CEO the late Steve Jobs liked to wear this whenever he presented a new iPhone. Yes! It is jeans. Jeans are loved by people all over the world, and come in various colors and styles. Then, who invented jeans?

The story goes back to the mid 19th century in America. A young man named Levi Strauss and his family immigrated to New York from Germany in 1851. In 1853 at the age of 24, he moved to California to run his own business. He sold rough canvas to use for tents and wagon covers.

One day a customer visited Mr. Levi. ¡°Can you make me stronger pants? My pants were torn again!¡± the customer asked him. He was a miner working in a gold mine. He needed pants strong enough for rough working conditions. At that time, there were a lot of miners in California. They gathered in California in search of gold.

¡°How can I make stronger pants?¡± Levi thought. He came up with a good idea! He made canvas into pants. Canvas was the fabric used for making tents. It was rough and hard.
No one had ever imagined making pants with canvas! Surprisingly, the canvas-made pants gained huge popularity among miners. The pants could endure the hard working conditions of the mines! People began calling the pants Levi¡¯s. Later, he used denim instead of canvas.
He also fastened the pockets onto pants with rivets. Rivets are metal pins. He was the first man who used rivets on clothes.

This is how jeans were first created. Levi¡¯s company became the first manufacturer of blue jeans. Until now, Levi¡¯s brand of jeans is very famous throughout the world.
How interesting it is that miners started the fashion of wearing jeans!
