My
Dad, Silly Billy, Willy the Wimp, and I Like Books. Are you familiar
with these? Yes! Those are the titles of books which are internationally beloved by children. I¡¯m
sure you have a favorite book among those above. By the way, do you
know who wrote those exciting books?
The answer is Anthony Browne. He is British and was born in 1946.
Anthony Browne books are so popular that he publishes over 30 new
titles every year. As an author of picture books, Anthony Browne
also has a great reputation for his unique
and funny pictures.
Children
always become excited and happy about the pictures in his books. He
is definitely one of the most remarkable illustrators in the world.
How and when did he discover his brilliant talent in drawing?
Interestingly, it all started with his tiny little habit.
When Anthony Browne was little, his parents ran a restaurant. So,
he always had to wait for his parents to come home. His parents bought
him crayons and a sketchbook, so that Anthony didn¡¯t have to be bored
until late at night. Since then, Anthony waited for his parents, drawing
pictures in his sketchbook.
One
day, he headed to the restaurant where his parents worked. ¡°I will
wait for you to finish your work,¡± he said. Anthony started to draw
in his sketchbook sitting in the corner of the restaurant. A couple
of minutes later, he was bored again, for he had already filled his sketchbook. He
looked around the restaurant, and finally began to draw on the wall!
At first, he drew in the corner of the wall. However, the drawing
became bigger and bigger, and eventually it filled the whole wall.
¡°What is this?¡± customers in the restaurant cried out at Anthony¡¯s
pictures. Rabbits, monkeys and lions were drawn on the wall. ¡°Did
you draw all these? You are as good as a real artist!¡±
Afterwards, he studied art
at university, and became an author and illustrator of children¡¯s
books. England recognizes him as one of
its most-loved authors of picture
books. Isn¡¯t it amazing that those little pictures from his childhood
led him to be where he is now? Why don¡¯t you find what you are interested
in doing, and start now? |
