When you
travel by air, you will be served by flight attendants. Most flight attendants are young and beautiful. But there is a very special flight attendant who is old enough to enter the Guinness World Records! Say hello to Ron Akana, who spent over 60 years in the air!
The 83-year-old steward recently retired, setting a new world record. He is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the longest-serving flight attendant in the world. He will appear in the record book in October.
Mr. Akana from Hawaii began his career as a steward in 1949. He was a student at the University of Hawaii when he spotted a newspaper advertisement about recruiting flight attendants. ¡°I became one of America¡¯s first male flight attendants.
At first, I didn¡¯t even know what a flight steward was,¡± he recalled. ¡°But it seemed pretty exciting and it proved to be more than that,¡± he said. He started working as a flight attendant purely by accident. But he ended up spending 63 years in the air, flying 320 million kilometers! What an amazing flight attendant!
