Look!
In the picture, the bald eagle looks very majestic and powerful. Here
is a pop quiz. Is it really bald like its name suggests? No, it is not actually
bald! The white feathers on its head make it look bald in contrast
to its brown body and wings. How interesting! How about learning more
interesting things about this cool bird?
The bald eagle is also called the American eagle and white-headed eagle. It weighs
from three to seven kilograms. Surprisingly, its wingspan is about two meters!
With these powerful wings, it can fly at about 48 kilometers per hour.
How fast! Also, it is famous for building huge nests. Interestingly, some
nests weigh more than a ton!
The bald
eagle has excellent eyesight. To our surprise,
it can see about seven times better than humans!
It sees things from a very far distance - more than 1.5
kilometers. This is the reason why it is good at hunting prey from high up in the
sky. Then, what does it eat? It mostly feeds on fish. It
also eats other animals such as ducks, rats, and even turtles from time to time.
Did you know that the bald eagle is the national bird of the United
States? In fact, the bald eagle is native to North America. Now it
is an endangered species and therefore protected
by the United States. |
