There is an organization that appears in every place where there are injured people. It helps people in need without discrimination. Can you guess what it is? Yes, it is the Red Cross! Let me tell you the story about the founder of the organization, Jean Henri Dunant. How and when did he found it?

Jean Henri Dunant was born in 1828 in Switzerland. His family was wealthy. They lovingly raised Henri. When he grew up, he worked at a company. He was such a great worker that he became a supervisor of a local office in Algeria, Africa.

While working there, he witnessed the devastating lives of the natives in Africa. He immediately quit his job to help them. He taught people about farming.

Meanwhile, he took a trip to Italy to meet the Emperor of France to get help to solve the problem of a lack of drinking water. In Italy, he was witness to soldiers dying cruelly on a battlefield. He treated all of them, no matter which army they belonged to. The people of the town were very upset at him. ¡°Why do you help them? They are not on our side,¡± they said. Dunant answered, ¡°How would you feel if your children couldn¡¯t get treatment only because they are from the enemy army?¡± Then, people voluntarily began to help the wounded soldiers with Dunant.

When he finally came back to his country after 10 years of life on the battleground in Italy, he published a book that tells a story about the tragedy of war. He also tried to let the world know that there should be an organization that provides care to the injured people on the battleground.

This is how the Red Cross started. Jean Henri Dunant won the first Nobel Peace Prize in 1901 for his dedication. There is no doubt that he deserved it!
