I Found a Mammoth!    [19-10-2012]

Giant mammoths once roamed the Earth. Mammoths are elephant-like animals with long tusks. But we cannot see the amazing creatures anymore. The woolly animals went extinct a long time ago. To our surprise, an 11-year-old Russian boy recently found a nearly intact mammoth!
Yevgeny Salinder uncovered a tusk, bones, fur, and flesh of a mammoth that is thought to be 30,000 years old. It is one of the best preserved mammoths ever found.

The young boy found the remains in permafrost, in Siberia. ¡°I found it while exploring the area around my home,¡± he said. Now the mammoth is informally called ¡°Zhenya¡± after the boy¡¯s nickname. The 16-year-old mammoth was about 2 meters tall and weighed about 500 kilograms.
The woolly beast may have been killed by an ice-age human or another mammoth. It will go on a display at the Taymyr Regional Studies Museum in Russia. Don¡¯t you want to go see it someday?
