 “Why
do watches all look the same?”
Store owner Nicolas George Hayek’s ears perked up when he heard the
boy. The little boy looked like an elementary school student. The
boy’s mom tried to stop the boy, but Nicolas wanted to talk to him.
So he approached him.
“What do you want watches to look like?”, he asked the boy. The boy
answered, “Watches in the world have only one dark color. I like to
have ones in various colors!”
As the boy said, the colors of the watches displayed in the store were
only brown and black. Also, the shapes of the watches had no diversity.
“I think it will look better if there are pictures on watches’ faces.
Then, people would look at their watches more often,” added the boy.
Inspired by the boy, Nicolas started to bury himself in creating watches
that have brand new designs. And he
finally made it! All of the watches that he made were what people
had never seen before. The watches had a variety of colors such as
pink, yellow, and green. They had pretty pictures on the faces, too.
 “It feels
like I am picking a candy. It is fun!”
Customers were very happy with the changes in watches. The new watches
immediately became the talk
of the town. They were beloved by not only young people but people
of all ages.
This is how the world’s famous watch brand Swatch developed an unbeatable reputation for its fashion
watches. As you read above, Nicolas George Hayek, the founder of Swatch
Group, always listened to people regardless of their ages.
As a result, that led him
to be a pioneer of fashion watches.
