Stephen
Hawking, born in 1942 in England, is the world most admired physicist. His great work
in physics definitely deserves high praise, but it is also his
life itself that can inspire us, because he has achieved such a lot
despite his disability. Let us look into
the inspiring story of how Stephen Hawking did not let obstacles get
in the way of life.
As a high school student who really liked math, Hawking started to
think about his future. ¡°I would like you to attend Oxford University,
where I graduated from,¡± his father said to him. Taking his dad¡¯s
advice, he studied hard to go to university, and he finally made it!
He majored in physics at Oxford.
Three years later, he went on to graduate school at Cambridge
University. He researched about the universe
there. He was very passionate in his studies.
However, while he was studying for his doctoral degree, he was diagnosed
with Lou Gehrig's disease, a disease
that causes the nerve cells in certain regions
of your brain and spinal cord to gradually die. ¡°You will
live for a year or two at the most,¡± his doctor said.
His body
slowly started to become twisted, and eventually he couldn¡¯t stand
or walk on his feet. Nevertheless, he never gave
up on his life. He put all his efforts into becoming a good physicist.
Ten years after he was diagnosed with the disease, Stephen Hawking
finally became the youngest member of The Royal Society of London
for Improving Natural Knowledge¿Õ¸³ÇÐȸ, the oldest and the most reputable scientific organization in England.
All the members of the organization said with one voice, ¡°Stephen
Hawking is a living legend in the world of physics.¡± The world was
also very impressed by his story.
Stephen Hawking showed the world that life must continue under any
given circumstance, even if the worst thing that
you have ever imagined happens to you. We must never give up. |
