1 Sungnyemun, also known as Namdaemun, is finally restored! After
5 years and 3 months construction, its dignified
appearance has once again
been unveiled!
In order to celebrate this historical event, a big ceremony
was also held with the slogan, “Sungnyemun, a new
door of culture opens!” on May 4 at both Sungnyemun and Gwanghwamun
Square. Restored Sungnyemun was opened to the public right after the
ceremony.
Sungnyemun was burnt down in an arson attack in 2008. After
that, the gate was restored, hidden from the
public. A lot of master artisans participated in returning
the gate to its original condition.
Now, people can visit Sungnyemun anytime free of charge from 9 a.m.
to 6 p.m., except for Mondays. |
