What pops into your mind first when you think of turtles? You might think of their slow movement. Aside from that feature, turtles are known as long-lived animals. In fact, they live very long. How and why? Let¡¯s find out by reading the following!

According to numerous studies by zoologists, the average life span of turtles is amazing. Don¡¯t be surprised. It is around 200 years old! In fact, the longest lived turtle in history until now was a 175-year-old turtle.

And how can they live so long? It is because of their slow behavior. They move very slowly. They even eat and breathe slowly! To our surprise, some species of baby turtle take about a year to hatch from their eggs! Also, turtles in areas with temperate climates spend winter months hiding in the mud without moving. In these and other ways, turtles save energy. Therefore, they can live long.

Recently, various ¡°slow¡± movements have become popular all over the world. There is ¡°slow food¡± and ¡°slow cities.¡± The slow movement is a cultural shift toward a slower pace of life. Many people believe slowing down life¡¯s pace will make them stay healthy and live long. Surprisingly, the idea for these movements came from watching turtles!
