Conductors play very important roles in orchestras and choirs. There are a number of famous conductors in the world; some Korean. For example, Chung Myung-whun and Geum Nan-se are world-famous Korean conductors.
Recently, another Korean conductor came into the spotlight. Her name is Kim Bo-mi and she is 35 years old. To our surprise, she became the first female conductor to lead the Vienna Boys¡¯ Choir!

The prestigious choir appointed Kim to direct the boys¡¯ choir on November 4. She is the first woman to conduct the choir in its 514-year history. She is also the first Asian conductor. She studied church music at Yonsei University in Seoul. Then, she moved to Germany to continue her studies.

Currently, she is working towards a doctorate in Vienna. Established in 1498, the Vienna Boys¡¯ Choir consists of the Haydn, Mozart, Bruckner, and Schubert choirs. Kim will lead the Mozart Choir. She will tour Asia with her boys. ¡°I can¡¯t wait to visit Korea with the boys!¡± she said. We will be waiting for you and your choir, Maestro Kim!
