Do
you exercise regularly? If you do, good
for you. But if you don't, you should start exercising! Hey, are you
saying that exercise is hard? Exercise can be very fun. And it's not
hard to do. In fact, you exercise all the time without even thinking of
it. Just being active is a kind of exercise.
For example, when you run
around outside or play tag at school, you are exercising.
This week, let's talk about why exercise is good for you!
Exercise Makes Your Heart Healthy!
Did you know that your heart is a muscle? It works hard, pumping blood every day of
your life. You can help this important muscle get stronger by doing
aerobic exercise. Aerobic
means "mith air."
So aerobic exercise is a kind of activity that needs oxygen. If you're doing aerobic
exercise, you're breathing faster than normal. Aerobic exercise can
get your heart pumping and quicken your breathing. When
you give your heart this kind of workout regularly, your heart
will get even better at its main job. Its main job is to deliver oxygen to all parts
of your body. Swimming, jogging, walking quickly, in-line skating,
and biking are all aerobic activities.
Exercise Makes Your Muscles Stronger!
Another kind of exercise can help make your muscles stronger, too.
Doing a push-up or swing across the
jungle gym at the playground are exercises that can build strength. By using
your muscles to do powerful things, you can
make them stronger. Here are some exercises and activities to build
strong muscles: push-ups, pull-ups, running, in-line
skating and bike riding.
Exercise Keeps the Balance of Your Body
Food gives your body energy in the form of calories. Your body needs
a certain amount of calories
every day to breathe, walk around and
do all the basic stuff. But if you're
active, your body needs an extra amount of calories.
If you're not very active, your body won't need as many calories.
If you eat more calories than your body needs, it may be stored as excess fat.
Exercise Makes You Feel Good
It feels good to have a strong and healthy body. If you are healthy,
you can do all the activities you enjoy such as running, jumping,
and playing with your friends. It's also fun to be good at some sports.
But did you know that exercising can put you in a better mood? When you exercise,
your brain releases chemical called endorphins. Endorphins may
make you feel happier. So, try to be active every day, and your body
will thank you later! |
