 Have
you read the book My Sweet Orange Tree 나의 라임 오렌지나무? The book tells
a very inspiring story and is a
much recommended book for children. J. M. de Vasconcelos, the author of the book, is also
recognized one of the most inspiring writers by the world, even though
he already passed away . How can we
become a great writer like him? Listen carefully to his own story.
J. M. de Vasconcelos was born in 1920 in Brazil. His family was very
poor. So, he had to work in various jobs for a living, such as a boxer,
a banana farm hand, and a waiter.
Even though he had many jobs, he had one dream that he wanted to pursue.
He really wanted to be a writer. Vasconcelos thought his working experience
at the time would eventually be helpful to
become a writer.

to his great efforts to be a writer, he finally published his first book
Rosinha mi canoa 호징냐, 나의 쪽배 in 1942. Meanwhile, he was invited to
a party, where there were a lot of famous Brazilian authors. People
at the party had a good time dancing and eating delicious food. However,
Vasconcelos seemed to be very busy. He was taking notes of something
in his notebook.
“What are you doing, Vasconcelos?” asked a man, who was wondering what he was doing.
The man was an author of several best-selling books.
 “I am writing
a story,” Vasconcelos answered him. “Ever since I started my literary
career, I never stopped writing wherever I am. In this way, the strong
desire of my hand to write
never goes away,” he added. “You will be the greatest writer someday,”
the man assured him.
Afterwards, Vasconcelos wrote a novel called My Sweet Orange Tree,
and became a very influential writer in Brazil.
