The
Lord of the Rings! There is no doubt that it is the world¡¯s
best and famous fantasy novel. People of all ages, from children to
adults, all over the world are absolutely crazy about it. How was John
Ronald Reuel Tolkien, the author of the book, able to come up with
this amazing story?
J.R.R. Tolkien, born in 1892, was an English professor at Oxford University.
Since he was very busy teaching his students and writing academic
articles, he always came home late at night.
¡°Dad,
why do you always come home late? My friends¡¯ dads always come home
early and play with them every day.¡± Tolkien¡¯s children didn¡¯t understand
his father. So he decided to make up a story
to tell his children in order to entertain them. When Tolkien
was little, his parents used to tell him stories, as well.
¡°Kids, do you want some interesting fairy stories? It¡¯s a funny
old story about fairies, dwarves, and evil dark lords.¡±
Every night, he told the story to his children at their bedside. The
children were so excited about the story that they always listened
carefully to their father.
¡°Why don¡¯t
you write a book with the story?¡± his wife suggested to him. Encouraged,
he published a book titled The
Hobbit in 1937. Surprisingly, the book became very famous shortly after it was published.
The publisher wanted him to write another story. Following his first
book, he finally published a book as a sequel to The Hobbit. It was
the legendary fantasy novel The
Lord of the Rings, which gained incredibly huge popularity
worldwide! |
