We
celebrated Christmas last month. Many houses decorated Christmas trees
to enjoy the joyous holiday season. Now
the festive period is over and we have to put our Christmas trees
away. Many people recycle their trees.
But a small German town came up with an interesting idea to get rid of their old Christmas
trees. Weidenthal, in southern Germany, held a Christmas tree throwing
world championship competition
on January 8.
Participants brought along their old Christmas trees. After removing
lights and other decorations, they competed
to see how far they could throw their
Christmas trees. The idea behind the fun event was to dispose of Christmas¡¯s leftovers
while welcoming in the New Year.
There are three disciplines in the competition: javelin-style,
hammer-style, and high jump-style throwing. The overall winner was decided
by the total distance achieved over the course
of the day. So, who was the winner? A 48-year-old man named Frank
Schwender won the competition by throwing trees a total distance of
22.45 meters over the three throwing disciplines. He must have strong
arms! |
