Protect the Polar Bears!    [23-08-2013]
Untitled Document
Recently, the skin and bones of a male polar bear have unfortunately been discovered in Svalbard, in the Arctic Ocean. It turned out that it had starved to death. Scientists who studied the case said that there was no remaining fat on the bear, just a little skin and bone. What happened to the polar bear?

Polar bears eat seals, and they need sea ice to hunt and capture seals. Climate change, however, lowers the sea ice levels. That means that the bears can¡¯t hunt seals. So it made this hungry bear go more than 150 miles from its home to search for food. Sadly, the bear starved to death while searching.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration±¹¸³Çؾç´ë±âû, sea ice reached record low levels in 2012. It suggests that the animals that rely on the ice for their survival have found it harder to live. Many scientists and experts predict that as the Arctic continues to warm due to climate change, two-thirds of the world¡¯s polar bears could disappear by 2050. How sad!

Recently many countries banned hunting polar bears and took legal actions to stop global warming. Many people are also making efforts to protect the bears¡¯ population. What can you do to protect them? Small actions to stop global warming could save the bears! How about searching and thinking about the ways to protect our friend, the polar bear, today?
